The sole survivor of the experiment was Edelgard, whose lifespan was greatly reduced but now bears a second Crest, the Crest of Flames.Īrundel continues to support Edelgard's efforts to take down the Church of Seiros, while Edelgard and Hubert mask their contempt for him. Meanwhile, once they arrived at Enbarr, Arundel and his mysterious organization teamed up with the corrupt nobles of Adrestia to abduct Emperor Ionius IX's children and subjected them to horrific experimentation in order to create an heir with the power to overthrow even the gods themselves. With Edelgard now away from the Kingdom altogether, this made Anselma so desperate to see her daughter that Cornelia exhorted her into killing the King of Faerghus and, by extension, causing the Tragedy of Duscur. This personality shift can be presumed to mark the point that the real Arundel was killed and replaced by Thales. Three years later in 1174, like Cornelia before him, Arundel had a sudden personality shift and stopped donating money to the Church of Seiros and took himself and Edelgard back to the Adrestian Empire. Anselma eventually married King Lambert under the name of Patricia, but Arundel kept Edelgard's identity a secret from Lambert in order to protect his niece from being used as a political pawn.ĭuring their time at Faerghus, the court mage Cornelia kept Anselma from seeing Arundel and her daughter and will begin to slowly manipulate her. During the Insurrection of the Seven in Imperial Year 1171, in which Arundel played a key role in supporting Duke Aegir, Arundel took Anselma and his niece, Edelgard, to the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus in apparent exile. Volkhard was granted the title of Lord Arundel after his sister, Anselma, became Emperor Ionius IX's consort.
